This Image can save you some time for competition Analysis

Competition analysis is a major task in SEO.

It is not a good practice to spend the time creating content that would never rank in Google because of the tough competition unless you absolutely love to create that content. In that case, by all means, just go for it, create the content.

What I'm sharing can save a little or huge time depending on the style of your work for researching competition.

It is an image, which is actually a list of websites, is taken from a great article titled "How 16 Companies are Dominating the World's Google Search Results" by Glen Allsopp on the DETAILED blog.

So all the credit goes to him. I just got an idea that keeping this image nearby can be helpful while doing topics research. So wanted to share with people who are into these.

So how exactly this list can be of use?

While researching on topics, we generally check if the websites that are ranking for a topic are highly authoritative. If most of the websites are so, and they are directly addressing the queries you are considering writing on, then it is a bad idea working on those queries.

Again if you are absolutely interested in addressing the queries, then go for it.

Not only for a specific query or a topic or an article, but this list can also be useful for choosing a niche, for building a profitable niche website.

In this case, you should probably have an idea of sets of important topics (if not already then do some research and have the idea) you should cover in the website.

Then you for each of the topics you should check search results for the competition. If the SERPs for most of the topics seems to be dominated by these companies, then mostly the niche will be too competitive.

Why these websites

Well, there might be many other websites depending on the niche, but these are most of those sites, covering most of the industries.

In his articles, 16 Company's that dominates the Google SERP, he explains how they are covering almost all the niche.

Sometimes we spend too much time trying to know if the websites that are now ranking, are really authoritative. Do if we refer the list within a minute we can know the entire SERP.

Well, the Moz bar can be even easier for the same thing.

But as a marketer, I think it is good to know these all websites.

So after some time, you don't even have to see the list every time you do the research. You just see the SERP for a glance and can tell if the SERP is too competitive.

So for the long run, it saves a lot of time and makes you a more experienced and confident marketer.
